Starting where the introductory class leaves off, Alexis guides the class through practical examples of secondary color correction, including use of the HSL qualifiers, vignettes, and custom user shapes. Next, the Color FX room is covered in depth, starting with the basics of node-based effects creation, and then moving through the creation of numerous examples of corrective and stylistic effects. This class concludes with an examination of controlling Color's image processing pipeline via your order of operations, and advanced grade management techniques. About Alexis: Alexis Van Hurkman is a writer, director, and colorist who has written extensively about postproduction with a column in the subscription newsletter "Edit Well," books including "Encyclopedia of Color Correction" and "Advanced Color Correction and Effects in Final Cut Pro," and a Color training DVD for Magnet Media. Working for Apple computer, Alexis also wrote the user manuals for Color 1.0, Shake 3.5 and 4, and Final Cut Pro 2, 3, and 4. As a New York based freelance colorist and Shake artist, Alexis works on a wide variety of narrative and documentary programming. Alexis' own feature "Four Weeks, Four Hours" screened at the 2006 Breckenridge, Salento Italy, Portland Longbaugh, and Toronto ReelHeART film festivals, among others (www.alexisvanhurkman.com).
Prerequisite: This class assumes you have excellent working knowledge of Final Cut Pro Studio 2 Final Cut Pro and Color applications as well as an understanding of the fundimentals of color correction.
